Meet the Writing & Marketing Pro Behind
My Big Business Card
Browsing around looking for more information about me and what I’m all about?
You’ve come to the right place!
In a nutshell, I’m a book writing and marketing strategist for coaches, consultants, real estate agents and other small business owners. Basically, that means people call me when seeking professional input on any number of book-writing and book-marketing projects.
I’ve edited book copy for people, but I’ve made a particular name for myself in online marketing, where I guide business owners and authors in developing website, blog and ezine content to generate traffic and build relationships with prospects, readers and customers.
From ‘Mooooo’ to Moving
I’m a long way from where I started my book-writing career—which was on a 200-acre dairy farm in northwestern Pennsylvania. That’s where, when I was 7 years old, I wrote my first book—12 pages on blue lined paper. I titled it The Autobiography of Donna Kozik by Donna Kozik, proudly gave it to my mom and later overheard her giving a glowing review to my grandmother: “Yes, it’s a real book! She has page numbers and illustrations of us and the dog, and it’s stapled together and everything!” (In retrospect, I think she may overdone it a bit knowing I was eavesdropping, but, in any case, her praise pretty much sealed the deal-I was going to be a writer.)
My undergraduate degree is in Communications and Literature from Grove City College, and I earned a master of business administration (MBA) degree with a concentration in Marketing from Gannon University. (I still say it was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done—let me tell you, finance profs speak a much different language than American Lit ones do.)
At the same time, I spent six years learning how to write fast and well as a newspaper editor. I spent six more years as an external communications specialist and speech writer with Erie Insurance Group in Erie, Pa., where I edited two magazines, including In Sync magazine distributed to over 1.5 million Erie Insurance policyholders three times a year.
Since moving to San Diego in 2001, I have been an independent writer, editor and marketing consultant for dozens of clients. I’m also the co-author and co-publisher (along with Tara Maras) of two books, the grand award-winning 29 Days to a Smooth Move and Get a Job! Put Your Degree to Work.
National Exposure
29 Days led to a gig as print/radio and TV spokesperson for Sprint PCS. Between that and conducting promotion for our books, I’ve been quoted in some big publications, including Women’s Day, Woman’s World and Teen People magazines, along with more than 130 Knight Ridder/Tribune newspapers nationwide.
My marketing expertise has also appeared in books and special reports published by copywriting guru Bob Bly and the folks at Marketing Profs. Oh, and I appeared on the NBC Nightly News in November 2000—it’s a great story about how that came about, ask me sometime.
Everyday Enthusiasm
Now I work with coaches, consultants and other small business owners and show them how to leverage their expertise to create books to serve as the ultimate marketing tool. I also encourage them to take their knowledge even further and create other on- and off-line products so they have multiple income streams generated by their expertise.
Through my special reports, articles, ezines, teleseminars and consulting work, I give insight to these entrepreneurs, sharing ideas and giving pointers while encouraging them to grow their businesses and accomplish their dreams.
And, I’ll tell you what, I love, love, LOVE what I do!
It’s quite a ride working with me—so, if you’re as passionate about success as I am, prepare yourself for a lot of fun and quick action!
By the way, if you’re looking for a stuffy corporate type to throw around million dollar words-that’s so not me. (I didn’t quite buy into all that MBA stuff.) But, if you’re looking for someone to guide you in getting started on earning a million dollars with a dynamic marketing tool of a book, I may be your person. (And, trust me, you’ll learn along the way that it’s not all about the money—it’s about the messages revealed to others and ourselves!)
Sound good to you? Sounds good to me! Come join the fun!
Yours in writing and marketing success,

Donna Kozik
